Helsinki’s postponed Kontula Electronic-festival releases Bandcamp compilation to raise money for the artists and to forward the message of electronic experimental music and glorify the oddiness of it. It is an international festival celebrating electronic music in its various forms combined with other arts.

Kontula is a district in Helsinki that has had a less than flattering reputation over the past number of decades. However, Kontula has turned from a troubled suburb into a vibrant multinational place, where there is certainly unrest in life but, more certainly, a rich wealth of humanity and open tolerance. Here, different cultures do not collide with each other but enrich our lives and our city.

Comment from the compilations’ artist Ilpo Väisänen:

Lovely, multicultural and verdant Kontula attracts people, that are for real, to take part in the diverse Kontula Electronic festival. It takes place in a vivid, built in the 60’s, shopping centre area. The greatness of the festival is that there is enough action, but not too much of everything. I have had the honour to have performed live in Kontula Electronic. Also the gig in Mopo-bar was a memorable experience. Might be that it’s the best festival in Finland?

I was looking forward to seeing how the festival will develop in 2020. It is still a new event made from a very different perspective in terms of location and programming, than other alternative festivals in Helsinki. It could also go in many different directions. Hopefully we see what will go on in Kontula later this year.

Kontula Electronic wants to bring a wide ranging display of Original music from Kontula Electronic artists. This compilation is specialized mostly on underground Electronic artists. Lary 7 and I dismantled a casio keyboard and touched the chips with tinfoil, knives and fingers. Creating accidental music that emerges from the depths of the primitive computer. Lary 7 is a well known art character in East Village, NY, one of the last remaining artists in that well gentrified neighbourhood.
